Constitution Day at Bethel

For Constitution Day — September 17th, if not already on your calendar — Bethel’s Political Science department will be hosting Does the First Amendment Foster Incivility?, part of a year-long conversation on conviction and civility here at Bethel.

We’ll gather in The Underground from 12:00-1:30pm. Join us for lunch, followed by a twenty-minute film on the lawsuit that Fox News brought against Al Franken after the publication of his book, Lies and the Lying Liars that Tell Them:  A Fair and Balanced View of the Right. After the film two members of Bethel’s Parliamentary debate team, Jessica Benham and Tom Monson, will debate the proposition: “The First Amendment fosters incivility.” This will be followed by a discussion with the audience.

Hope to see you there! (And if you’re interested in these issues, consider taking HIS/POS216L American Constitutional History next spring, with our own AnneMarie Kooistra.)
