AnneMarie Kooistra on Slave Narratives

AnneMarie KooistraOver the summer our own Prof. AnneMarie Kooistra was selected to take part in a seminar at Yale University’s Gilder Lehrman Center that facilitated teaching and discussion using slave narratives. In a Bethel News story, AnneMarie explained that she “hoped, first and foremost, that the seminar would rejuvenate and deepen my teaching about slavery and personal narratives,” in courses like HIS200L American Civilization and Bethel’s Western Humanity in Christian Perspective sequence.

She continued, “I also believed it would provide useful insights into the complexity of racial identity, conflict, and cooperation that I could share with the larger Bethel community.” And earlier this fall she did share some of those insights with the Bethel community in a presentation at the Bethel Library.
