As usual, students celebrated the end of interim in their History of the American West course by donning “western wear” attire. Although the Major Problems of the American West kept us all grounded in the historical realities of the West, we also watched plenty of westerns. This year, the runaway favorite western was Clint Eastwood’s Pale Rider, with its inspiration, Shane, coming in a distant second. New this year, thanks to two Honors students, Hilary Ritchie and Katie McEachern, was a presentation on western mining songs which included performances and a class sing-along. Sorry you missed it? Look for the return of the course in Interim 2015!
