RIP G.W. Carlson

We regret — more than we can possibly articulate — to share this bad news, which went out just now:

Students, Staff, and Faculty:

It is with great sadness that we must share with you the death of Bethel University College of Arts & Sciences Professor Emeritus G.W. Carlson. He suffered a severe stoke on February 1 and passed away early this morning.

Please keep his wife Cathy, and children Ian and Sara in your thoughts and prayers during this very difficult time.

A memorial service is being planned for February 28 at Bethel.

Of course, we’ll have much more to say here in the next couple of weeks. But for now, just join us in praying for Cath and the rest of GW’s family — and in remembering together this remarkable man, who was friend to so many.

Peace be to the memory of G. William Carlson.

  1. Oh man!! He baby sat me and gave me a second chance with regard to a book review of the “Mermaid and the Minotaur.” A life in and out of academia (political science) commenced. Made a difference.

  2. A thoughtful, caring and committed servant to God, family and humanity! We miss him already, and dearly! So many fond memories. Blessings to Cathy, all the family, and so many others who share this loss.

  3. He was such a kind, loving, faithful man…..I am blessed that the Lord allowed his path to cross our family’s path and be a beacon of hope in our lives…educator, softball and so very much more… Prayers to the family…..
