Congratulations to Dr. Diana Magnuson, whose latest work on the history of the U.S. Census is the lead article in the new issue of the Journal of American History!

Published by the Organization of American Historians, the Journal of American History is the journal of record for U.S. history

Written with Steve Ruggles of the Minnesota Population Center, “Census Technology, Politics, and Institutional Change, 1790-2020” is available to students through the Bethel library’s subscription; others can find a working paper version available free online. The two also collaborated on “The History of Quantification in History,” published earlier this year in the Journal of Interdisciplinary History, also available through our university library.

This newest article extends Diana’s already long list of publications on census history, which includes multiple entries in the Encyclopedia of the Census.
